Jim Carrey's Best Ever Film, As Voted By You, Is 'Bruce Almighty'

Jim Carrey, the man who could probably make a funeral director laugh with his intense slapstick comedy, is no doubt gurning with glee right now as he celebrates his 56th birthday today.

In honour of Jim's birthday we set up a poll tournament - similar to the World Cup of Crisps - to find out your favourite Jim Carrey movie. The results came as something of a shock as 12,907 of you plumped for... Bruce Almighty.

Yep, the 2003 'what if a normal dude became God?' comedy film beat out 1994's Ace Ventura: Pet Detective as your top pick, winning by 53 percent to Carrey's goofball breakthrough comedy in our final Twitter poll. Alllllrighty then.

The film controversially knocked out big-hitters like Dumb and Dumber and The Mask on the way to claiming the crown, making it the Jim Carrey equivalent of Greece. Or Wotsits.

Our tournament took on a knock-out format as we started by picking our fave 16 Jim Carrey films. These picks blended Jim's pure comedy films - such as Liar Liar, Dumb and Dumber and both Ace Venturas - with his more serious stuff like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

The knock-outs started predictably enough, as Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Truman Show, The Mask, Bruce Almighty and The Grinch all made it to the last eight.

The only big shock to us in the first round was the success of Me, Myself and Irene, which thumped Eternal Sunshine... with 76 percent of the vote. Guess we can understand why with scenes like this:

The quarter-finals started with an eye-raising shock - while Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask made it through comfortably, The Grinch edged out Liar Liar by 53 percent to 47 percent..

That was nothing compared to what happened next though, as Bruce Almighty eliminated Dumb and Dumber by an agonising one percent, scoring 51 to D&D's 49. What?!

The semis saw Ace Ventura: Pet Detective taking its rightful place in the Grand Final, swatting The Grinch aside with 59 percent of the vote.

Despite the backlash in the previous round, the Bruce Almighty juggernaut just steam-rollered on, as fan favourite The Mask was the next to fall in its path. Were all these voters kids or something?

In the end the eventual winner was inevitable, as Ace Ventura put up a brave fight before Bruce Almighty vanquished it in the Grand Final. All you post-millennials out there should probably take a long, hard look at yourselves.

Ultimately, the tournament was only a bit of a laugh, and we can't really be too mad as we got to revisit some of Jim's best bits along the way - even though we found out most of you have appalling taste.

We thought our little poll would turn out fine at first then it ended up going batshit extremely quickly. No doubt the most manic actor of them all will be proud.

A very happy birthday to you, Jim.
