Fans of Keanu Reeves and the John Wick movie franchise, rejoice! News has emerged that the star, and by all accounts 'nice guy', is set to appear in a TV series which will serve as a prequel to the films.

Keanu fans shouldn't get too excited though, as the series created by Chad Stahelski won't actually focus on Wick himself, but instead on the Continental - a hotel chain for assassins, as featured in the films.

The hotels are essentially 'safe houses' where assassins can get the tools they need and hide out, but where no 'business' is allowed to be carried out.

Fans were introduced to the New York Continental Hotel in the first film, with follow-up John Wick: Chapter 2 revealing that there are Continental Hotels all over the world.

The new series will follow the characters that pass through the hotels and is now set to include a cameo from Mr. Reeves himself.

Speaking of his new series, Stahelski said: "I think he would make an appearance. I think that's part of his thing, [but the series] isn't centred around John Wick.

"I like telling stories from my one character's perspective. Once you put that aside with the TV show, [you can] expand to all the different characters and follow them throughout their journey.

"You can be with the consigliere, concierge, the sommelier - you can be with all these different characters and walk through the world in different aspects; ones that I'm a little limited [from exploring] by staying with my lead guy."

In an interview with Indiewire, Stahelski added: "It's very tied to the film, it's about the Continentals all over the world, how certain people come into that world, and what happens in relation to those people, which is cool.

"I think the world is very vast, and everything I've heard from it is very positive.

"It's something that studio seems very, very intent on [making] and very, very behind."

Keanu Reeves answers LADbible readers' questions ahead of the release of John Wick: Chapter 2

When Stahelski set out to make the first film in the series, he had every intention of it being a one off.

"For us and Keanu, John Wick was a one-off," he said.

"Then all of a sudden everybody wanted us to do No. 2, and No. 2 did really well. So now, he kind of had to choose where to put his time, and he's kind of vested into John Wick - at least for the series and No. 3."

There's no official word yet on when we can expect The Continental to hit our screens, and with John Wick 3 still in development, it might be quite a while before we get any more action.

Still, we're sure it will be worth the wait.
