Kevin Feige Confirms There'll Be No Avengers Films In MCU Phase Four

The Marvel boss explained his decision in an interview at Comic-Com in San Diego

Marvel supremo Kevin Feige has announced that there won't be any new movies in the Avengers series during the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Despite that, it's been a huge few days as Marvel and a load of other companies have descended on San Diego for the 2019 edition of Comic-Con International.

Marvel Studios has announced 11 new movies and TV shows as part of phase four, but Feige explained why they're not having any new Avengers outings when he was pressed for an answer during an interview with IGN.

Feige said: "We had a movie this year called Avengers: Endgame, and it is very much an ending, as you saw, to so many of those characters,

"So Phase 4 is about beginnings, and Phase 4 is about learning new things about characters you already think you know, like Black Widow; meeting incredible new characters like The Eternals and Shang-Chi; going on new adventures with Doctor Strange and Thor; and these Disney+ shows which I promise will be spectacular and what no one is expecting."

That seems fair enough. After all, we wouldn't want the whole Avengers franchise to become stale or over-saturated.

Instead of that, we're getting a fourth Thor movie, starring Natalie Portman as Lady Thor alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.

Oh, and there's the small matter of a reboot for Blade starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali.

There's more intriguing properties that might be less well known in the works. Titles like Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Eternals.

As well as all of that, Marvel is also about to dip a toe into the pool of horror cinema. It looks like the much awaited sequel to Doctor Strange - starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role - could be the first scary film in the MCU.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse will be directed by Scott Derrickson, who also brought us The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister and he told Comic-Con's Hall H: "We are going to make the first scary MCU film."

Feige then added: "It's gonna be PG-13 and you're going to like it."

There you have it.

Cumberbatch was also at the event, and he said: "I think it's vital to maintain the humour of the first film, but with this twist of horror."
