Leonardo DiCaprio will be teaming up with veteran director Martin Scorsese for forthcoming crime drama, Killers of the Flower Moon.

The film is based on the best-selling book by David Grann, and will be set in 1920s Oklahoma. The plot will revolve around the Osage Nation, who became the richest people per capita in the world after they discovered oil under their land - and began to be murdered one by one. As the death toll rose (which had just been created) decided to look what the hell was going on, slowly unearthing the chilling conspiracy to be one of the biggest and most monstrous crimes in American history.

According to Variety, production is set to commence during the summer of 2019.

Imperative Entertainment acquired the rights to the novel in 2016, and DiCaprio and Scorsese became loosely attached to it soon after expressing their interest.

Scorsese will be producing alongside Imperative Entertainment's Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Sikelia Productions' Emma TillingerKoskoff and Appian Way Productions, while Eric Roth will be writing the script.

Scorsese has said he's 'excited' to be reuniting with old pal Leo, who he's worked with for a total of five feature films and one short film since 2002.

"When I read David Grann's book, I immediately started seeing it - the people, the settings, the action - and I knew that I had to make it into a movie," Scorsese said in a statement.

"I'm so excited to be working with Eric Roth and reuniting with Leo DiCaprio to bring this truly unsettling American story to the screen."

Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked together on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf Of Wall Street - a pretty sterling back catalogue, meaning we've all got high hopes for this next project.

DiCaprio even thanked Scorsese in his acceptance speech at the 88th Academy Awards, having finally won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Revenant.

After soaking up his standing ovation, DiCaprio thanked his co-stars and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, before thanking many others who'd helped get him to that moment.

"I have to thank everyone from the very onset of my career," he said.

"To Mr. Jones for casting me in my very first film to Mr. Scorsese for teaching me so much about the cinematic art form."

We're looking forward to seeing the boys back in action.
