Matthew McConaughey And Snoop Dogg Star Together In 'The Beach Bum'

Matthew McConaughy and Snoop Dogg are due to star in a film directed by Harmony Korine - what could possibly go wrong?

Remember the McConnaisance? When Matthew McConaughey went from being that guy who leaned against women on the posters for crap romantic comedies to a genuine, proper actor, who did good films and telly and that? Well...

Now, he's in a movie with Snoop Dogg called The Beach Bum and it sounds just plain weird.

According to IMDB's description, he's playing 'a rebellious stoner named Moondog' who 'lives life by his own rules', which really sounds like the sort of character that might be better be played by Snoop Dogg.

Perhaps it's a role reversal comedy in which Snoop plays an attractive, yet slightly seedy Southern gent with a past. We can but dream.

In fact, Snoop will be turning out as Lingerie, about whom nothing else is known save for the ludicrous name.

Alongside that star duo will be former tween heartthrob Zac Efron, as well as Isla Fisher - now a long way from her humble beginnings on Home and Away - and Jonah Hill.

It's some cast list, and when we tell you that the director is slated to be Harmony Korine, you can legitimately start to get excited about the cluster something that this movie is destined to be.

Korine, for those who don't know, is the man who penned the controversial 90s flick Kids, and wrote and directed the weird (some might say 'borderline unwatchable') Gummo. More recently, he performed the same double duties for the James Franco vehicle Spring Breakers.

The director has now shared the first image from The Beach Bum, which doesn't really tell us too much - although McConaughey looks suitably dishevelled in a sailor's cap and Hawaiian shirt (presumably he's the beach bum in question, then), while Snoop looks... well, like Snoop.

Good stuff.

There seems to be a third act in the McConaughey career - well, a fourth if you include the early period when he was good the first time around (amirite, Dazed and Confused fans?) - that has seen him go completely off the rails and star in just about anything.

There was his unusual cameo at the start of The Wolf of Wall Street, followed by his appearance in The Paperboy, a little-seen film where (and I'm not making this up) Zac Efron pisses on Nicole Kidman's leg.

Still, nice to see they're all keeping busy. The Beach Bum is set for release later this year - no specific date has been set just yet - and the very least you can say about a movie with a cast like this is that it sounds intriguing.
