Fans of the popular USA Network drama Suits might be in for a shock after it has been reported that stars Meghan Markle and Patrick J Adams may not return to the show after the conclusion of the current season.
When the second half of the season seven airs later this year it may be the last chance fans get to see of two of the show's biggest characters in action, reports Deadline.
Markle, who plays Rachel Zane, has been dating Prince Harry since 2016 and it has long been rumoured that she plans to put her acting career on hold to concentrate on her other interests as well as her charity work.
In addition to her acting career, Markle is also a founder of the lifestyle blog The Tig and a U.N Women's Advocate.
Earlier this month a source close to the actress told Vanity Fair magazine: "It was always her intention to focus on her humanitarian work, but I think her relationship with Harry has accelerated things moving in that direction".
Her co-star, Adams - whose on-screen character Mike Ross is engaged to Rachel Zane - is reportedly seeking a new challenge and had made up his mind to leave Suits some months prior to the recent reports.
An insider told US Weekly: "He was always leaving the show. He made his mind up a while ago,"
"Patrick wants to pursue other things and he's realized his time at Suits has come to an end. They were waiting for Gabriel Macht to sign. He's going back so there will be a season 8 and as of now, 9."
There is good news for big fans of the pair as they have not completely ruled out returning to play their characters in guest roles.
There is also the potential for a happy ending for their characters as they are due to get married in the forthcoming episodes.
There is no doubt however that their departure will leave a huge void in the show left to be filled by the remaining stars.
Gabriel Macht - whose character Harvey Specter is a great friend of Adam's character Ross - will lead the surviving cast into the coming seasons.
Whilst it may be disappointing to lose such key parts of what has made the show a success, the Chicago Tribune has reported rumours of a 'Suits' spin-off set in Chicago that is scheduled to begin filming this week.
