In a statement to LADbible, the streaming service said: "Marvel's The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come."
The statement also said Marvel's Jessica Jones would also not return to Netflix after its upcoming third season.
"In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel's Jessica Jones," it continued.
"We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognised by the Peabody Awards among many others. We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."
Earlier today, Jon Bernthal also shared a mysterious message on Instagram - which many fans believed confirmed the cancellation of Netflix series The Punisher, following rumours that the show was not going to be renewed after the second season.

Bernthal wrote: "To all who have served. All who know loss. All who love and understand Frank and his pain. It has been an honour to walk in his boots. I'm endlessly grateful to the comic fans and the men and women of the Armed Services and law enforcement community who Frank means so much to. Thank you to the USMC and all the wonderful soldiers who trained me. Go hard. Be safe."
Many fans read between the lines and commented to say Bernthal's message sounded a lot like a 'goodbye' to the character, with someone saying: "@jonnybernthal you sound like you're saying good bye... why are you saying this??? Please don't."
Someone said they were 'not okay with that', while another begged for a third season.
One Instagrammer also asked: "Does this mean it's cancelled??"
Another commented: "Assuming this means the cancellation announcement is coming today."
Someone else wrote: "Guess that's it then. No season 3."
A fourth speculated: "Jesus be a heart ache. This was one of the best shows on Netflix! It's bullshit that they're forcing it off."
Netflix aired the second season of the show at the start of 2019, but rumours that it could be the last one started circling shortly after.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb and Steve Lightfoot, a showrunner for The Punisher, said they had left the coast clear for a third outing to follow the season two finale, but that the show's fate lay with Netflix.
"We have a whole story in mind that would be awesome, but again, the guns are locked and loaded, but Netflix has the finger on the trigger," Leob said.
