It is the day you have all been waiting for, God knows it's the one I've been waiting for - the hotly anticipated series Dogs is now available to watch on Netflix.

Because everyone loves dogs, right? If you don't you're clearly someone who can't be trusted and should be banished from society because let's face it, you've got issues.

However, if you do have a soul then you get to enjoy all six episodes of the new series, dedicated to exploring the bonds that tie man and his best friend together. If anything six episodes is just not enough.

And if - like me - you can't wait to get home to start watching, here is a clip which looks at how dog owners in Japan spoil their pets - preferring them over children.

One owner says: "When I'm sad, or angry, or suffering, she understand. She's part of me. I love her."

The trailblazing show has been created by dog lovers Glen Zipper and executive producer Amy Berg - an Academy Award-nominated director who also directed two Dogs episodes - in order to explore how the world interacts and bonds with these furry friends.

Speaking to People magazine, Berg said since making the show she has become even more obsessed with canines than ever before, and admitted she even goes up to random strangers so she can pet their dogs.

She said: "The lesson for me was, no matter how different people are, a love of dogs is something we have in common."

Zipper is a former criminal prosecutor and drastically changed his life 16 years ago after having a run-in with a needy pit bull puppy, who became his pet, Anthony.

He said: "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for dogs."

But the show isn't just about the creators, it follows normal people and their inspiring stories, and even if you don't own a dog you are certain to have your heart melted once you see this lot.

Zipper said he had the pleasure of working with a 'dream team' of directors while making the show, but though they want people to have an emotional reaction to the animals, they want to try and bring people together as much as possible.

He said: "There is a wide chasm between belief systems right now; if there is something that we are all truly passionate about to love, like dogs, that's a place to start."

Just as long as they don't go making one about cats. No one needs that.
