It's definitely fair to say Netflix have been on top form when it comes to their true crime documentaries - first there was Evil Genius, then there was The Staircase and now we have the trailer for The Innocent Man.
The new six-part series covers the case the legendary author John Grisham covered in his book of the same name about a pair of murders than happened in Ada, Oklahoma, in the 1980s.

In 1982, 21-year-old Debra Sue "Debbie" Carter is raped and killed inside her home. In 1984, another Ada woman, 24-year-old Denice Haraway, is killed after being kidnapped from the convenience store where she worked.
Not only this, the documentary will cover a controversial set of events that followed the killings. Four men - Tommy Ward, Karl Fontenot, Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz - were charged with the murders in 82 and 84.
Williamson and Fritz ended up being exonerated in 1999 due to DNA evidence and help from a non-profit legal organisation called The Innocence Project. Williamson had been on death row for 11 years and was a mere five days away from being actually executed when he was finally released.

Even with the release of Fritz and Williamson both Ward and Fontenot weren't and are still in prison serving their life sentences - however, the pair still claim they are innocent of the crimes.
The documentary will uncover the similarities in the two cases, such as how they were dealt with by the authorities - it will question how the men's videotaped confessions and the lack of forensic results and physical evidence against them.
The upcoming documentary has been directed by Clay Tweel - the man behind Finders Keepers, Gleason and Out of Omaha - and will in include various interviews from friends and family members of the victims, residents of the town, attorneys involved and journalist who reported on the crimes.

It wouldn't be a series from a Grisham book without the man himself being involved - the author served as an executive producer and he provides interviews.
The Innocent Man is set hit our screens on Friday 14 December, so get your feet up and get ready to be obsessed with another true crime documentary.
