Yet another Netflix show to keep you up at night

At the moment it seems to be the aim of Netflix producers to see just how far they can push the limits of their audience.

In the past few months there's been a host of shows and original films, such as The Haunting of Hill House, Black Mirror's Bandersnatch, and Bird Box, which have left audiences reaching for the pillow or watching from behind their hands.

And now there is yet another show to add to that list of psychological torture the streaming service is inflicting on its subscribers: You.

Based on a book of the same name, by Caroline Kepnes, it stars Shay Mitchell and Penn Bagdley, better known to Gossip Girl fans as Dan Humphrey.

It tells the story of Joe, the manager of a bookstore who meets an aspiring writer named Beck and falls head over heels in love.

The creepy thriller is leaving audiences terrified.

However, this is an eerie thriller, not a rom-com, and Joe's feelings quickly take a more sinister turn as he becomes obsessed with Beck, going further and further to find out more about her and her most intimate details.

But it seems that the apparent commentary on the modern world and the lack of privacy we all now enjoy has cut a little too close to the bone for some viewers as they took to Twitter to share exactly how terrifying the show is.

One person wrote: "I've just finished watching #YouOnNetflix and honestly? What. The. Hell. The Internet and social media is scary. I say as I'm posting on social media."

A second person said: "Not even 10 minutes into #YOU on Netflix and I'm creeped the fuck out already."

Another added: "Just binge watched all 10 episodes of @YouNetflix and OH MY GOD. Don't want to spoil anything but I couldn't get off my laptop and the last 5 minutes of the last episode had me on an emotional rollercoaster. CANNOT wait for season."

A third wrote: "Netflix started streaming the lifetime thriller You today. A smart scary too close to home thriller. Worth watching because yeah. It is."

One said: "Dammit. Couldn't stop watching You and now I won't be able to sleep. But kudos to @PennBadgley for the role of the Joker!"

And another creeped out viewer said: "Bitch is anyone watching #YOU on netflix wtfffffff put ur shit on private delete ur social media lock your doors."

Well, quite.
