New Teaser For 'Stranger Things' Series 3 Is A Retro Mall Advert

The mall has it all. What IT is, we don't know

Netflix has teased a new location that could play a big part in the third season of Stranger Things. A brand new state of the art - well, state of the art in the 1980s - mall.

The streaming platform released an 80s style advert for the 'Starcourt Mall' on Monday that shows off all of the many retail and leisure facilities available at the mall, which is coming to Hawkins, Indiana 'next year'.

The advert/teaser trailer is filmed in classic nostalgic style, complete with star wipes, cheesy '80s synth pop background music, and an equally outdated voiceover to explain the many features that the fictional mall will contain.

We even got a glimpse of some of the characters that will star in the forthcoming series. Steve Harrington (played by Joe Keery) will be returning, alongside new character Robin (played by Maya Hawke).

Both characters can be seen working (and doing some acting) in the ice-cream restaurant 'Scoops Ahoy!'.

The trailer was released on the Stranger Things Twitter account earlier today with the caption: "Ahoy! Something is coming... to Hawkins, Indiana!"

That's about all we've got to go on just now, but it should get fans excited enough for the third season, which is likely to be out at some point in 2019.

As ever, with these sorts of things, we can count on Police Chief Jim Hopper, also known as David Harbour, to fill us in on what to expect.

It's pretty cryptic, sure, but it's something to get you through until more details are released.

Harbour told Deadline: "If you're a real fan of Stranger Things and you really want to know,"

"I would go look at the great films that were released in '85, of which there were many, and just go down that list and think of the possibilities that we could be going with. I think it is a specific season to 1985, and so you'll see references to that."

Very interesting. A quick glance reveals that classic films like The Goonies, The Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future, were all released in 1985. That said, so was Rambo: First Blood Part 2, Weird Science, and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Not a great deal of help there, then.

Luckily, Harbour continued: "We're experimenting a lot this season, and we're taking risks, and I hope that they pay off but they are risks. We're going into territories we've never been to before, and it's exciting."

That's not much use either, but at least we can spend the time between now and 2019 wondering what is going to go down at the Starcourt Mall.
