The inhabitants of Royston Vasey kept us laughing, and feeling a bit...off, from 1999 to 2002.

This was followed by a film, in 2005, which looked to be the end for the popular show.

But fans of Tubs and Edward Tattsyrup, Pauline Campbell-Jones, Barbara Dixon and Mr Matthew Chinnery, didn't give up that easily, and have been crying out for the series to make a return because there's only so many time we can watch the repeats of Netflix, isn't there?

Well, fantastic news League of Gentlemen fans, because the show's Reece Shearsmith tweeted earlier today to confirm that he's cracking on with writing the new material.

Naturally fans are getting pretty excited on Twitter:

Mark Gatiss, one of the writers and stars of the BAFTA-winning show, announced it would be making a return to our screens in a pretty low-key way earlier this year, when he replied to a tweet from film director Duncan Jones, a fan of the show.

He wrote: "Thanks so much for your kind words Big fan. You may be pleased to know that we're planning a 'League' anniversary special!"

So, I suppose it makes sense that Shearsmith would confirm it was being written in a similar no-fuss way.
