'Peaky Blinders' Gives Us A First Look At Season 4 And Cillian Murphy Reckons It's The Best Yet

We’ve got a new look at the series and it is set to pick up with the Shelbys still away from the mean streets of Birmingham

Get us back to Birmingham, pronto. Something we never thought we'd say, if we're honest, but that's just how excited we are about the return of everyone's favourite 1920s gangster TV show. Boardwalk what?

There was a feeling after the third and most recent series of Peaky Blinders that the show had lost its way a little bit, with Tommy Shelby and crew having hit the big time and moved out of the mean streets of Birmingham. Now, though, they're going back to Brum and bringing the whole gang with them.

"In the classic gangster arc, the last season was sort of all about the wealth, the house and all that material stuff. This season is sort of a return to the roots. That's about as much as I can reveal," said star Cillian Murphy to radio station Today FM in his native Ireland.

That isn't to say that the Shelbys were having everything their own way. When we saw them last, a fair few of them had just been arrested, while Tommy's wife, Grace, had been murdered. Now we find them six months on, ready to put the razor blades back in those flat caps and get going again.

And an image has been released of Tommy and all the gang to get us in the mood for the new season.

The brains behind the show were also proud to announce that some real Hollywood weight will be joining the already stacked cast list. Adrien Brody, only bloody Oscar-winning star of The Pianist Adrien Brody, will be in the new series, as well as Aidan Gillan of Game of Thrones, The Wire, Love/Hate and well, everything, fame.

"Adrien plays the threat to the family and possibly the biggest they'll face," said Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. "Aidan is a sort of, in the face of danger it's like pressing the nuclear button - you get him to help. Let me put it that way. We have been very fortunate to get two really legendary actors. We get a lot of actors who want to be part of [Peaky Blinders] which is great but we try not to make it a 'spot the star' sentiment, and just get actors who are really perfect for the role."

"Tommy's redemption might take a little bit longer. It's the family being forced back together," added Knight, cryptically.

We can't wait it.
