People Think Tony Stark Is Dead After Watching Spider-Man: Far From Home Trailer

Viewers are saying all the evidence is there to prove Iron Man doesn't survive the fallout in Avengers: Endgame

Marvel has finally dropped the trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home - cause for celebration, right? Well yes, although some fans are now saying that it provides a handful of clues Tony Stark's chances of survival don't look good in the forthcoming Avengers: Endgame.

In the trailer, we can see Peter Parker/Spidey (Tom Holland) setting off on a school trip before meeting Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury for the first time - and we finally get an up-close look at Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal).

It seems that Spider-Man initially teams up with Jake Gyllenhaal's character before the latter decides to go down a different route, presumably becoming the sinister supervillain we've all come to know from the character's history in comics, cartoons and beyond.

However, there is one notable Marvel character missing from the trailer: Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr), aka Iron Man.

He'd been the Avenger closest to Spidey, with an important role as the webslinger's mentor in both Spider-Man: Homecoming and the earlier Captain America: Civil War. Fans are now saying his absence is a sure sign that he dies in the upcoming Avengers movie, which is set before Far From Home.

One person tweeted: "To me, there's subtle hints about Tony dying and it feels like Nick Fury is there to recruit Spider-Man for [Fury's espionage/defence organisation] S.H.I.E.L.D."

Another said: "Peter doesn't feel like he can be Spider-Man now that Tony Stark is dead..."

"Spider-Man far from home trailer safe to say we know how avengers endgame will end now unfortunately since Peter Parker and Nick Fury are both in this trailer," a third posted.

Then there's the moment where a giant cheque is set to be presented at a public hall - one eagle-eyed viewer noticed the $500K cheque is signed by Pepper Potts, rather than Stark Industries CEO Tony.

Not outright proof, but certainly persuasive.

Another noticed Peter didn't want to use the suit that Stark gave him, instead leaving it in his wardrobe.

One Twitter user had the theory that Nick Fury isn't actually there, but all an illusion created by Mysterio - meaning Spider-Man, Fury and others may very well be dead after Thanos eliminated half all life in the universe with a snap of his fingers.

At this point not a whole lot is known about how he's going to play into the film, but Gyllenhaal explained during a CCXP panel: "There are these threats to the world, the Elementals, elemental creatures.

"Mysterio is someone who knows about them and wants to make sure that the world is safe from them, and Nick Fury asks him to come on and help because he's the only one who really understands them.

"Then he teams up with friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man and unfortunately has to make him become more than a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man."

But this is just theory for now - we know that Marvel is excellent at concealing any plot twists, showing audiences just enough to keep them wanting more.

So maybe Stark is dead - the question will remain up in the air until the film is released - you won't get to see Spider-Man: Far From Home until 5 July, but some questions should be answered in April when Avengers: Endgame finally drops.
