For anybody concerned that Game Of Thrones isn't quite deathy enough, fear not, the cast also pretend to be dead off camera. Or at least Peter Dinklage does.

It is well known that filming can be an extremely lengthy process, with every shot taken from all conceivable angles across hundreds of takes. Scale that up to a production as gargantuan as Game Of Thrones, and the cast are undoubtedly going to have plenty of time to kill. But how to kill said time without the assistance of massive dragons. Bit of PlayStation time? A game of cards?

Nope, not for Dinklage, he prefers to pretend to be dead - for hours. The actor, who has received three Primetime Emmys and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister, made the revelation in an appearance on chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Enquiring about pranking between cast members on set, Kimmel asked Dinklage whether he participated. What followed was not the usual jumping out from behind doors that you might expect.

"I like to pretend I'm dead. It's fun," said Dinklage.

"For whose benefit?" asked Kimmel.

"Whoever, the wardrobe person, the producers - just my legs sprawled out in the trailer. You've got to get really smushed into the floor in a very awkward position," the man they call Tyrion replied.

You would think he would have nailed this by now, having watched many of his former cast members act out this very scene through the seasons.

Kimmel then asked how far he takes his banterous pranking, to which he replied: "I'll wait hours. It's just... we have a lot of time on set."

We all know that 'when you play a Game Of Thrones, you win or you die', but who knew that when you play a character in Game Of Thrones you pretend to have died?

No doubt many avid fans will be fuming with this revelation, having previously expressed dismay at the lengthy waits between seasons - "perhaps if you hadn't spent so many hours literally pretending to be dead on set I would know what happens by now," you hear them cry.

The eighth and final season of the show is due to air in 2019 and it is going to be an emotional time for the huge international fan-base who have been gripped by the drama since it premiered in 2011.
