Piers Morgan Baffled After Ant McPartlin Is Nominated For National Television Awards

The 'Good Morning Britain' presenter made his feelings very clear when he told viewers that Ant has been 'sitting on his backside'

Anyone else reckon Piers Morgan has a checklist in the Good Morning Britain dressing room that he strives to complete every day? It probably goes something like: find innocuous news story, take the opposing view, argue about it til you're blue in the face, rinse, repeat.

This morning Piers vented his frustration over Ant McPartlin being nominated for a National Television Award - but then something unusual happened. People started siding with the ITV presenter.

Morgan, 53, was gloating about Good Morning Britain being selected in the running for 'Best Daytime Show' - as well as holding a silence for the show's rival, the BBC, and its absence from the nominations.

Then his attention quickly turned to Ant and Dec, leading to a discussion about the Geordie presenters, who have been nominated for the section 'TV Presenter' and also 'The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment' award.

This is despite Dec being the only half of the duo to have been on our screens following Ant's drink driving conviction.

Ant McPartlin pleaded guilty to drink driving after being involved in a car accident in Richmond, London.

Morgan laughed: "Congratulations to Ant McPartlin who's got an NTA nomination despite sitting on his backside for the entire year.

"I mean that's the way to do it, isn't it? No work, walk the dog, get up, go and have a walk around, chat to your mates."

He added: "I mean, I love Ant but come on, really? Really, British public, you're going to give the award again to a guy who hasn't done any work this year? And I've been coming in every single day."

Co-presenters, Richard Arnold and Charlotte Hawkins soon jumped in to remind us all that Piers himself only works three days a week (yes, guys, it could be worse).

Piers was quickly called out on his rant.

Not letting it go, he said: "They'll win, even though Ant's basically been sitting on his backside from what I can see, walking his dog for the last year. He's got an award."

I mean, it's probably worth pointing out that no one's won it yet.

Still, across social media, people have been agreeing with the controversial presenter. One said: "I make him right! Ant hasnt been working for nearly a year, so why should he get nominations".

Some were reluctant to concur with Piers' statements, with one saying: "I'm agreeing with @piersmorgan. I need to lie down."

But someone else argued: "Piers sits on his backside everyday talking about himself pot n Kettle."

Looks like this one could be set to rumble on. Your move, Ant.
