The internet is a doubled-edged sword. A keen example of this is what happens when a much-talked-about movie lands in the cinemas.

As sure as night follows day, you can bet your house that as soon as the first scene of that film starts rolling, there will be thousands of horny b******s desperately looking to see if there is a porn version.

Of course, it's no different for Joaquin Phoenix's powerful portrayal of The Joker in Todd Phillips' new cinematic take on the character.

According to the good folks over at Pornhub, the release of the new flick has led to a monumental spike in searches for 'Joker' on their site.

A statement from the erotic giant, said: "Our statisticians found that in just four days, searches containing 'Joker' reached 741K with a peak of 291K on October 6th. Bang!"

But it's not just Pornhub that has witnessed an engorgement of interest in the Crown Prince of Gotham; the guys over at xHamster say they have seem more than a 1,300 percent increase.

Alex Hawkins, VP of xHamster said: "People are now fantasising about the f***ing Joker. Human sexualisation is weird sometimes, but the Joker searches have risen over 1,300 percent, which is astounding."

But if Joker erotica isn't your thing, you could just go and see the actual movie - apparently it's quite good.

The film's star even turned up to a recent screening of the critically-acclaimed origin story.

In video posted online, the actor can be seen entering the room, to the delight of the audience, before saying sorry.

The controversial movie has caused quite a stir.

Of course, the audience are thrilled to have him there, shouting encouragement, to which he shyly points to one member of the audience and jokes: "I can tell you're mad at me."

He then says that he hopes they all liked the movie, but not to tell him if they didn't. Thanking them for watching, he receives rapturous applause from the fans.

His performance in Joker has seen plenty of suggestions that he'll win an Oscar - it's been lauded as so dark and intense that people have reportedly been walking out, which I would say is a massive compliment to his acting.

However, some viewers weren't happy. One person even suggested that there should be a 'trigger warning' when it comes to people buying their tickets for the controversial film.

Joker is in cinemas now.
