Rami Malek Lands Golden Globe Nomination For ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

Rami Malek Lands Golden Globe Nomination For ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’

The film itself has also been nominated for the Best Motion Picture (Drama) accolade

Rami Malek has landed himself a Golden Globe nomination for his incredible turn as Freddie Mercury in this year's hit, Bohemian Rhapsody - you know, the one that's been recommended to you by all the whole world (including your mum, who gave you the disclaimer of 'I don't even really like Queen, but I thought this was just fabulous').

The film itself has also been nominated for the Best Motion Picture (Drama) accolade, but it's arguably Malek's performance as the late icon that we're rooting for most - even if only for that Live Aid scene.

During an interview with news.co.au, Malek explained he must have watched Mercury's original 1985 Live Aid peroformance more than 1,500 times to nail the scene - and even had the recording on set with him to get it perfect.

He said: "That's something we tried to get move for move, even just gesture for gesture perfectly.

"It felt like I had it in my bones and I didn't want to keep going back to it. It felt like sometimes you would lose a little bit of the authenticity if you tried to nail it so perfectly.

"Things won't exactly always match up, there might be a hint of something that's off, but I think that kept it feeling really alive and in the moment and it was better to sacrifice it that way, but yeah, I was watching it non-stop."

Even Brian May only had praise for the film:

Along with Bohemian Rhapsody, other movies nominated for best motion picture awards include Black Panther, A Star Is Born and BlacKkKlansman, while other actors include Lady Gaga, Bradley Walsh, Emily Blunt and Melissa McCarthy.
