Robert De Niro's Company Suing Employee For Watching Netflix At Work

Robert De Niro's Company Suing Employee For Watching Netflix At Work

Amongst other things, to be fair...

A woman is reportedly being sued to the tune of $6m (nearly £5m) by Robert De Niro's production company for binge-watching Netflix whilst she was supposed to be at work.

OK, so it's not really acceptable to sit around watching Netflix when you're supposed to be grafting - unless you're a TV critic, perhaps - but one woman is realising exactly how frowned upon it is after Canal Productions - Hollywood legend Robert De Niro's company - filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against her.

In a report in Variety, it states that Chase Robinson, the company's former vice president of production and finance, sat around watching shows such as Friends, Arrested Development and Schitt's Creek while she was supposed to be doing her job.

De Niro is probably not happy.

The lawsuit alleges that Robinson is guilty of 'embezzling money and binge-watching Netflix while on the job'.

She actually left the company in April, but the legal documents allege that she spent 'astronomical amounts of time' sitting through comedy shows on the popular streaming platform before she left.

By 'astronomical amounts' they mean 55 episodes of Friends over a four day period.

That's more than even the hardiest Friends fanatic could muster, surely?

The lawsuit states: "Over the four-day period between Tuesday, January 8 and Friday, January 11, 2019, 55 episodes of Friends were accessed."

It goes on to allege that 20 episodes of Arrested Development and 10 episodes of Schitt's Creek were also watched during a period in March.

On top of these allegations, Canal also say that Robinson rarely actually turned up to the office and spent thousands of dollars on the company card for things like taxi journeys, food deliveries and Uber journeys.

Great, but not if you're at work...

The lawsuit documents add: "Watching shows on Netflix was not in any way part of or related to the duties and responsibilities of Robinson's employment and, on information and belief, was done for her personal entertainment, amusement and pleasure at times when she was being paid to work."

Hmm, those are some pretty damning allegations if true.

Despite the lawsuit, Robinson has yet to formally comment on Canal's proceedings against her. However, we can get an insight into her thoughts on the matter from the resignation email that she sent before leaving the company in April.

In that document she dismissed any of the claims against her as 'ridiculous'.

As for De Niro, he's about to be seen in The Irishman, a film that sees him reunited with director Martin Scorsese.

It's out this October. But where?

Netflix, of course.
