Iron Man Actor Robert Downey Jr Pays Touching Tribute To Stan Lee

Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr has paid a touching tribute to Stan Lee, saying he 'owed it all' to the late Marvel creator.

Downey Jr first appeared as Iron Man/Tony Stark a decade ago, helping to launch the actor back into major Hollywood roles. He went on to appear in a number of titles across the Marvel Universe, including two Iron Man sequels, the Avengers' movies, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man Homecoming.

Lee passed away yesterday in Los Angeles, he was 95. As the editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics, he was responsible for the creation of more superheroes than you can shake a stick at, including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Black Panther and Iron Man.

As the sad news broke, tributes began to pour in from across the industry, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige saying: "No one has had more of an impact on my career and everything we do at Marvel Studios than Stan Lee. Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all.

"Our thoughts are with his daughter, his family and the millions of fans who have been forever touched by Stan's genius, charisma and heart."

Avengers' directors the Russo Brother also paid their respects:

As did dozens of actors:

Even rival comic-makers DC released a statement in his honour, saying: "He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place. Excelsior, Stan."

Lee was well-known for his cameoss, popping in a number of Marvel movies as well as slightly less obvious appearances in films like Princess Diaries 2 and Mall Rats.

He will also appear in the upcoming fourth Avengers movie, due out in May next year.

Joe Russo told BBC Scotland: "He doesn't love to fly, so typically we try to get him out for his cameos around the same time.

"So if we have other movies shooting on the same lot that we're on, for instance Ant-Man 2 or Avengers 4, we group his cameos together and then move him from one set to the next and kind of get him through his cameos in one day."
