Long gone are the days Rupert Grint was the awkward, yet lovable, red-haired Ron Weasley we grew up with in Harry Potter - but it could've ended much sooner as the actor revealed he almost quit after the fourth film.

That's right, we might never have seen Ron have his first kiss, annoy Hermione - then marry her.

In an interview with the Independent, the 30-year-old said he genuinely considered leaving the Wizarding World behind after finishing his GCSEs - what?

He told the Independent: "I had just finished my GCSEs. I thought 'Do I actually want to keep doing this? It's a bit of a drag'. Because obviously it's a big sacrifice. You take for granted anonymity, just doing normal stuff, just going out. Everything was different and a little bit scary. There were times when I was like 'I'm done'."

Thankfully the star kept going and we had four more films of the dashing Ron Weasley - all before he even turned 23, so you can imagine it was a lot for a youngster to take in.

Rupert said growing up in the limelight was difficult - people would always be clambering for autographs and selfies it would often make him wonder if they wanted to see him, the actor, or him as Ron.

He told the Independent: "It's almost like having a split personality. Sometimes it can be quite dehumanising to have people just taking pictures of you when you're out. To them, you are just this one thing.

"It's a weird existence. But that's my life. I can't really remember life before it. In a weird way, you become blasé about it. It becomes normal and you adapt."

What all fans of the franchise might be gutted to know is Rupert has hung up his cloak and wand for good, even with the hit West End Show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

He said: "Never say never, but, for me, I closed the book on that. It was a huge and amazing part of my life that I feel ended at the right time. We're all saying this, but we're ready to move on."

Nowadays, Rupert has moved on to more adult things we can love him in as he's made in the web series Snatch.

The series, now moving into season two, is loosely based on the popular movie of the same name - and is inspired by a real-life heist in London.

It follows a group of hustlers in their 20s who end up completely thrust into the world of high-stakes world of organised crime.

Rupert not only plays the role of the utterly posh Charlie Cavendish, and also serves as an executive producer - basically he's come a long way since the days as one of the Harry Potter trio.
