The moment is finally here - the new series of Marvel blockbuster The Punisher has just dropped on Netflix.

Fans have been waiting months for the return of the action-packed thriller and the streaming service has now announced that all 13 episodes are available to watch.

The good news was confirmed by Netflix on its official Twitter account.

The post said: "A fight born in blood. Season 2 of Marvel's The Punisher is now streaming on Netflix."

And unsurprisingly, the show's loyal army of fans haven't been able to contain their excitement, with hundreds responding on Twitter.

One fan wrote: "Let the binge watching begin."

Another viewer said: "Between this and football my weekend is going to be awesome."

A third then added: "Click click boom! I'll be watching this later tonight. I'm ready for one exciting season!"

The second season sees Jon Bernthal reprise the role of vigilante Frank Castle, and while the first season focused on the death of Castle's family and the conspiracy behind it, the new season will see him fully adopt his Punisher persona.

Showrunner Steve Lightfoot told Collider: "If you ask, 'What is the theme of season two? It's about Frank really adopting the mantle of The Punisher."

Sounds good.

And producer Joe Quesada is pretty hyped, too. Speaking to ComicBook.com during San Diego Comic Con, he said: "It is just crazy stuff. Crazy stuff. It's going to be exactly what fans want.

"Last year, this time, I was going around telling people like you [Punisher is] the best show we may have done.

"I think there were three fans on the floor, they were like, 'Come on, man.' I'm like, 'If you don't think it's the best show that we've done and if [Jon] Bernthal is not Frank Castle, I will pay your Netflix subscription for a year.' Never collected, thank God."

The Punisher is one of only two Marvel series left at Netflix, following the cancellation of Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist last year.

Jessica Jones also still remains but a third season has yet to be released.

However, if reports are to be believed then it might not all be good news for fans of the brutal action series, with rumours suggesting this could be the final run before it is cancelled by the streaming service.

The news of Daredevil's cancellation has led many Marvel to assume that the same fate awaits The Punisher and Jessica Jones, but who knows, eh?

All we know is that the second season is here and we can't wait to watch it.
