It you were starting to get bored of comic book superheroes and villains being brought to life on the big screen well then you might want to hide under a rock because it doesn't look like this juggernaut is slowing down.
While we're all very familiar with the likes of Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk and the X-Men, there are literally hundreds of other characters that have never seen their name in dazzling lights. There's probably a good reason for that, either they have a boring character arc or even worse, a shit superpower.
However that doesn't appear to apply to the latest Marvel creation getting it's own movie: Morbius. If you're scratching your head going, 'Who the fuck is that?', rest assured all will be explained.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Sony is in the early stages of developing the story for the Spider-Man villain. Morbius, the Living Vampire, follows the story of scientist Dr. Michael Morbius, who develops vampiric abilities after a botched biochemical experiment. He was looking to find a cure for his rare blood disease, which involved bats and electroshock therapy.

While he might not share the dashing good looks of say Superman, he does have some pretty epic superpowers. He has healing abilities; he can fly and has superhuman strength. The only downside is that he needs blood to survive and doesn't enjoy natural light.
He made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 in 1971. It was the first issue of the series that was written by someone other than editor-in-chief Stan Lee.
Morbius battled against the web shooting superhero, as well as the Human Torch and the original X-Men. Throughout his storyline he also runs into several other people in the Marvel Universe, including quasi-vampire and vampire slayer Blade, Doctor Strange, the Ghost Rider, Doctor Octopus, Lizard and was even cooperating with S.H.I.E.L.D., which worked with the Avengers.

The vampire villain was going to be included in the Blade sequel, however studio executives decided to keep exploring aspects from the first film.
But now Morbius will get his very own movie, which will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless who created the script for the Power Rangers film. That didn't rate very highly on Rotten Tomatoes, neither were the other movies they worked on, Gods Of Egypt, The Last Witch Hunter and Dracula Untold.
However, there is a lot of material to work with on this character, so let's hope Matt and Burk have been saving their best material for this Marvel project.
