Sophie Turner Blames Emilia Clarke For Coffee Cup Blunder On Game Of Thrones

Sophie Turner Blames Emilia Clarke For Coffee Cup Blunder On Game Of Thrones

Could the Mother of Dragons be responsible for the infamous coffee cup gaffe?

In Game of Thrones, all kinds of backstabbing and betrayal goes down. But it seems this sort of thing continues among cast members off set.

In an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Sophie Turner - who plays Sansa Stark - was accused of being to blame for an errant coffee cup which appeared in the most recent episode; however, she denied responsibility, instead pointing the finger at Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen).

In the interview, a video message was aired from Joe Jonas - who Turner married last week - in which he blames his wife for the blunder.

Host Fallon then whipped out a photo from on set in which Turner can be seen posing with Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont) while holding a coffee cup that looks very similar to the one left on set during the infamous scene.

However, the 23-year-old actor was quick to dispel this theory.

"This girl dies," she said, while pointing to Ramsey/Mormont in the photo.

"And this is a scene from the episode after she dies, so why am I holding this coffee cup, that's in a different scene?

"And also, we all have the same cups for all of our water and tea and everything."

Clearly unsatisfied with just ruling herself out of the equation, Turner then adopted the no smoke without fire logic and blamed her co-star Clarke for the gaffe.

She said: "So I'm just gonna go with, I mean, look who it's placed in front. Emilia Clarke, she's the culprit."

Well, it seems a fairly simplistic argument, but you could argue that Clarke doth protest too much. Earlier in the week, she shared a fairly cryptic post on Instagram in which she seemed to deny responsibility.

The post was a picture of her, Peter Dinklage - that's Tyrion Lannister to you and me - and Jason Momoa - Khal Drogo, remember? - on the set.

In the shot, which was presumably taken a few seasons ago, Clarke is holding a paper cup similar to the one seen in the feast scene.

Emilia Clarke denied leaving the cup on set.

She captioned it: "Did I just stumble upon the truth here?! The cup bearer does not drinketh the Starbucks tea... oh and this ain't a spoiler just a lost wanderer coming home for a mid filming cuppa...."

Obviously, the post doesn't really make sense, but it has more than 4.5 million likes, which does to show that Daenerys can do whatever she damn well pleases and people will still like it.

The final season of Game of Thrones continues on Sky Atlantic at 2am on Monday 13 May. It then repeats at 9pm for viewers in the UK.
