Fans of the show seem up for it too

You can't move for reboots and remakes these days - even The Lion King, the 1994 Disney classic that many of us will always cherish from our childhoods, has recently been brought kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.

Well, actor Frankie Muniz waded in on the topic - but while he's referred to many reboots as 'dumb ass', there's one TV show he thinks warrants a revisit.

"We still have no idea what Malcolm is up to," Muniz mused on Twitter, referring to his on-screen character in sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, which ran for six years between 2000 and 2006.

Sure, his words are by no means confirmation of a reboot for the show, but it sounds like he's more than up for it - which is no doubt half the battle.

In fact, not only is Muniz game for it, fans of the show seem to be as well, with one commenting: "OMG. I would love a reboot/all grown up Malcolm in the Middle show."

Someone else wrote: "The only reboot that really matters. this NEEDS to happen."

A third agreed, saying: "Malcolm in the Middle is my favourite show of all time. I 100% back this idea up."

"Malcolm in the midlife crisis," one person suggested.

The show wrapped in 2006.

While some joked that we all know what happened to Muniz' on-screen father, played by Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston ("His dad turned out to be a drug lord. Malcolm is in counselling for sure!"), others went one step further and tried to propose storylines for a potential reboot.

One wrote: "I'd love to see one where Malcolm has lost his job or something and has to come back home and Lois and Hal are still at home and Reese still hasn't gotten a job and the series would excel since I miss Malcolm in the Middle."

Another chipped in: "Reese was working as a janitor at the end which is job that's full-time with benefits. I think he'd be doing just fine."

In 2006's season seven finale, we found out through flash-forward that Malcolm was working his way through college - despite fears that the family could not afford it, and his initial plans to ditch further education and pursue a career. Reese and Francis, meanwhile, are happy in their new jobs, while Lois is surprised to find out she's pregnant with her sixth child.

But did Malcolm graduate? What did Lois and Hal call their sixth kid? Are they grandparents yet? What does Dewey look like now that he's in his 20s?

Seriously, all this speculation on Twitter is fun and all, but perhaps it's time to get some real answers now...
