Superhero fans, I have some good news - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to get a sequel.

Sony seems keen to continue with the animated superhero franchise, and who can blame the company given the success of the first movie? Not only was it loved by fans, but it also got high praise from critics and bagged an Oscar for Best Animated Feature.

Now producer Amy Pascal has revealed a sequel is on the way.

Speaking to io9, she said: "We are definitely hard at work on the sequel. You can expect another movie."

Fans have been expecting a sequel since before the original movie was even released, with producer Phil Lord telling ComicBook.com the Spider-Man flick was 'the tip of the iceberg'.

He added: "You could imagine all of these other things. So it's music to our ears that people could imagine a Spider-Noir film, and the Spider-Ham insane cartoon."

Fellow producer Chris Miller said: "I think there's a bunch [of possible characters], and I don't want to say too much because there's a wide breadth of characters that are coming out of the Spider-Man universes now.

"And it's really fun to be able to sort of think about plucking ones that you haven't seen before or have something interesting thematic to say."

Of course, plot details are scarce at the moment - but there have been rumours swirling for a while about both a sequel and a spin-off.

A sequel and a spin-off are reportedly planned.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joaquim Dos Santos - who has previously worked on Avatar: The Last Airbender - has been asked to work on the sequel, while Zombieland 2 and Expendables writer David Callaham has also been called on to pen the story.

Aside from this, there's reportedly set to be a spin-off, which centres on the female characters within in the Spider-Man universe.

If you don't fancy waiting that long for your Spidey fix, then Marvel's Spider-Man: Far From Home hits cinemas on 2 July.
