Steve Carrell has suggested a crossover between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Office, after Rob McElhenney shared a video of himself and his cast-mates at the Dunder Mifflin set.

And, as you can imagine fans are very, very keen on the idea.

Posting a video on his Instagram, McElhenney, who plays Mac in It's Always Sunny, had a cheeky swipe at The Office, saying: "So apparently this is Dunder Mifflin... I guess where they shot The Office. I wasn't 100 percent sure of that. They're gone now. They're off the air."

He added: "Sorry Carell. You got these guys now. Sorry." before spinning the camera around and showing off his co-stars Charlie Day and Danny DeVito - in classic Frank Reynolds style, DeVito gives a cheery wave from his trailer while not wearing trousers.

"I guess your show got cancelled or whatever but we're still doing ours," McElhenney adds. "So we're doing it here."

To add insult to injury to The Office stars, he captioned the video: "The bar inside Dunder Mifflin is now called Paddy's."

The post grabbed a load of attention from fans and even a few stars; Jenna Fischer, better known as Pam to fans of The Office, commented to say: "I'll be right there" while BJ Novak, who played Ryan Howard, joked: "Thanks for casting me in Glenn's part, hopefully no one notices."

McElhenney also attracted the attention of Carrell, who responded on Twitter to say: "Rob, this blood feud has to end. 'It's Always Sunny in Scranton'. Thoughts?"

While McElhenney hasn't yet replied, fans most certainly have done - in their thousands, in fact - and they're more than ready to see this idea become a reality.

One wrote: "It's Always Sunny and The Office are by far the two funniest shows on television in the past however many years. Imagine if the Michael Scott showed up to the bar and hung with the gang? COMEDY GOLD!"

Another posted: "If Steve Carell visited Paddy's Pub as Micheal Scott, all the problems in my life would magically go away."

While a third added: "I can't believe no one has thought of this before."

Even Angela Kinsey, who played Angela Martin alongside Carrell, got in on the act by posting:

Come on then, guys. Give the people what they want.
