When a show kills off a character, it's usually met with unhappiness and devastation. On a few occasions, it provides a huge sense of relief and fist pumping. But there was one death in Stranger Things that provoked a massive cult following.

Poor ole' Barb was just minding her business on the pool jumping board, when WHAM! She was taken by the monster into the Upside Down and we only saw her once before the season was over. Lovable Barb was literally in the show for about five minutes - but that didn't stop her death causing an international outrage.

A hashtag was born, #JusticeForBarb, with fans the world over demanding that the show give us some closure. But other diehards took it a step further to plead with creators the Duffer Brothers to bring her back for season two.

Some have been speculating that she could make a brief appearance in the next instalment - but alas, those hopes have been dashed by executive producer Shawn Levy. He's told The Hollywood Reporter: I'll give one example that I've been asked about a hundred times which is people still think Barb's alive.

"Because you think you want that, but you wouldn't really want that. I've had a lot of people, some huge celebrities come up to me at these awards shows, like, 'So, between us, Barb's coming back, right?' I'm like 'No, you saw, she had like a creature, slug, worm, snake, coming out of her mouth. I don't know that there's a bounce back from that'.

"So no, we are not going to cravenly service the wish-list of fans, we're going to service the Duffer instincts and what they feel is the right story to tell."

Fair play, I'd be annoyed if I kept getting bugged about a tiny part of an eight-episode series that had plenty of stuff to talk about.

But come on, it's Barb.

For those desperate for information about the next season, it will take place around Halloween 1984, a year after the town was touched by the disappearance of Will Byers. According to the creators, this season will look at the broader idea of how Will vanished.

David Harbour who plays Chief Hopper, told E!: "I do think that this season's going to be a lot darker, and a lot bigger, and a lot faster-paced. There's a lot of scares, and there's a lot of humor, so it's just a very different flavour."

"You know that lab is still, in some iteration, out there, and you know that only certain people in the town knew what happened last year, so it's a year later, and Hopper's under a lot of stress when we meet him, because he's got to sort of put tops on all these pots.

"He's also involved some way in the reemergence of this Eleven character."

Well, well, well. We shall be seeing the return of the magical Eleven. Brilliant.

The season will premiere on Halloween this year - so it's only a few more months left until our questions will be answered.
