A team on The Chase has won an eye-watering £100,000 after beating brain box Anne Hegerty.

The team of four - Diane, Luca, Tim and Gayna - scooped the impressive prize pot after correctly answering 21 questions in the final round, giving Anne a hard act to follow.

But really, the credit needs to go to Diane, who got six grand in her cash builder round but decided to risk and go for the higher offer, netting her team £86,000. Nicely done. Her impressive risk paid off and she brought the amount home which was added to the cash won by the rest of her team.

Anne gave it her best shot, but was caught out with 13 questions still to go.

According to host Bradley Walsh, it's the highest amount ever won on a daytime version of The Chase.

Fans of the show were really rooting for the team:

And were absolutely delighted when they won:

Aww, see, people on social media aren't all bad.

This was the first episode of the new series, and what a good team to come back with, eh?

Accepting her defeat, Anne said: "I hope The Ritz does do takeaways because you deserve it - you all do. Very, very well played.

"I didn't expect to win that one to be honest. Very good indeed."

Tweeting yesterday, Anne gave a little clue that fans were in for a decent watch, when she said it was a 'corker' but that she couldn't reveal too much.

Well, it's nice to see she's not a sore loser, isn't it? I somehow can't imagine Mark Labette being as gracious in his defeat.
