The Actor Who Played CBBC's 'Raven' Confirms The Show Is Returning

Big, big news.

"Many years ago, the sun hid behind the moon and six strange symbols were drawn from gold."

It was how every episode of the CBBC classic, Raven, began.

Between 2002 and 2010, James MacKenzie entertained us and the 'only one who commands the spirits of truth and virtue'.

Since then, he's been largely off British television screens, leaving us with a desire to be able to battle the Way Of The Warrior.

But in a Tweet this evening, the Scottish actor will once again don his cloak, for Raven is returning to our screens.

He tweeted: "The rumours are true... RAVEN is BACK & so am I! By day u may see my shadow & by night you may hear me call. #letthechallengebegin."

As you can imagine, the twitter response was massive.

The show will have revamp, though. A new lead actor will feature. Aisha Toussaint, 21, will feature, we imagine, alongside MacKenzie.

She told the BBC: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be the new Raven. I was a massive fan of the original series and remember rushing home from school so I didn't miss an episode - it was always so exciting."

Similar mental and physical games will be included in the new series and there's another constant - Raven's nemesis, the evil sorcerer Nevar. The warriors will all be competing to be named Ultimate Warrior in the hope of helping Raven defeat Nevar in the Ultimate Battle.

For eight years (2002-2010), there were 10 regular series of the show, plus three spin-offs.

The show, in that time, won several BAFTAs, with each show featuring three groups of six warriors competing in various challenges over five days.

There were six emblems represented: the sun, cloud, mountain, tree, wave and moon.

However, in 2010 the final Last Stand was taken, Sarjed was declared the winner, and Raven flew off into the distance.

Jamie went on to feature in Dani's House, a spin-off of Tracy Beaker, between 2011 and 2012 before featuring in Scottish soap opera, River City, since 2015.

If you want to relive the excitement, and build yourself up for the tenseness once again, here's the opening title sequence.
