The Cast Of 'The Big Lebowski' Meet Up 20 Years Later

In case you're wondering, The Dude still abides....

Earlier this year, fans of the cult cinema classic The Big Lebowski celebrated the 20th anniversary of the film's release. Now, the three main characters have reunited to have a chat about everything to do with the Coen Brother's comedy classic.

You could say that they just dropped in to see what condition their conditions were in...

OK, full disclosure. That's the first of several awful Big Lebowski related jokes that this piece will feature.

Anyway, The Dude, Walter, and Donny (Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, and Steve Buscemi) got together at the behest of The Today Show to chat about the making of the film, the reaction after making it, and how one of the characters almost never made it there in the first place.

Luckily, there were no marmots to be seen.

The film itself was not exactly an instant success. In fact, from a budget of $15m it only took $17m during the cinematic release. However, it proved to be a slow burner and has gone on to make a great deal more in physical sales.

Speaking about the script, which was written by Joel and Ethan Coen, Goodman loved it from day one, but Buscemi was a bit more apprehensive.

He said: "When I was reading the part of Donny, I kind of didn't get it.

"I felt bad for the guy. I thought, 'Why does Walter bully him all the time?' And as I'm reading it, I thought, 'How am I gonna tell Joel and Ethan that I don't want to do this?'

"And then when I got to Donny's last scene... I saw the relationship. I saw how much Walter really loves Donny and how they're like brothers, and I found it very moving."

Shut the fuck up, Donny, you're out of your element.

For his part, Jeff Bridges has been blown away by the amount of truck that is given to the philosophy of his character - The Dude.

He said: "I was sitting next to a Zen master at this dinner party, and he leans over and ... he says, 'You realise in many circles, The Dude is considered a Zen master."

It's true. Bridges and his dinner party friend Bernie Glassman eventually wrote a book, entitled The Dude and the Zen Master'.

So, 20 years later, the lessons of The Big Lebowski continue to interest and intrigue people around the globe. It has surely got to be one of the most influential films of all time.

But that's just - like - my opinion, man.
