A number of IMAX cinemas in the US will be screening The Dark Knight in honour of the film's 10-year-anniversary.

According to Variety, Warner Bros is set to air special anniversary screenings of the flick for the week beginning 24 August.

Batman fans in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Toronto will be able to enjoy the action on the big screen all over again. Lucky buggers.

Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel was the first major feature film to utilise IMAX 70mm cameras, so it's only right that IMAX cinemas show off the film as it was intended to be seen - on a bloody massive screen.

If you weren't lucky enough to catch this at the cinema first time around and can this time, you definitely should. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 20 July, and will almost certainly sell out. So be quick, if you're keen.

The Dark Knight was released 10 years ago today (18 July 2008) and was an almost instant success. It was the fourth ever film to take over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and even 10 years later it's still in the all-time top 10 highest earning box office films in the US.

While Christian Bale reprised his role from Batman Begins as, arguably the best caped crusader, it was the late Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker that really stole the show, earning him an army of fans and rave reviews from critics.

The film was nominated for eight Oscars, two of which it won, including a posthumous best supporting actor gong for Ledger.

Speaking after his death, Ledger's sister Kate Ledger said that he had hoped to star in another Batman movie.

"He was so proud of what he had done in Batman," she told news.com.au. "And I know he had plans for another Batman.

"He loved working with Chris Nolan and Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. He just had the best time ever doing that film. When he came home at Christmas, he couldn't wait to tell us all about it, and he was doing the voice and laughing, showing me all the rushes. We had a great time."

Sadly, that was never to be, but at least we have The Dark Knight and now is the perfect time to give it another watch, I reckon.
