The Dude And Carrie Bradshaw Star In New Stella Artois Advert

No 'Big Lebowski 2' after all...

Remember the other day we told you that The Dude from The Big Lebowski was back? Well, we've heard a bit more now. It's not the sequel we'd all hoped was going to happen, but an advert for Stella Artois.

All we got last time was a really short video shared by The Dude himself, Jeff Bridges. It was tweeted with the caption: "Can't be living in the past, man. Stay tuned." And the date - 3 February.

That, to anyone who is into their American sports, means only one thing. Super Bowl Day.

Anyway, we've seen the advert now. It features The Dude alongside another icon of 1990s popular culture. Sarah Jessica Parker reprising her role as Carrie Bradshaw, the lead character from Sex and the City.

So, what's the rationale behind this seemingly bizarre pairing? Well, it's quite simple actually. They've both got a signature drink.

The Dude is synonymous with the White Russian (Caucasian, please) and Bradshaw put Cosmopolitans back on the map.

However, in keeping with the tagline of the advert, they both opt for a nice bottle of Stella in order to 'change up the usual'. There you have it.

It's not just a clever bit of advertising, cashing in on the continued popularity of two favourite characters, there is a humanitarian element to the whole project.

Stella os keen for everyone to know that as well as making beer (and Cider/Cidre/whatever)it is also trying to do a bit of good.

They've got a new initiative called 'Pour It Forward'. The whole point is that with each purchase from Stella's website they can provide clean water for somewhere that desperately needs it.

In fact, each bottle of Stella Artois sold offers someone out there one whole month of clean water. Surely that's worth getting a few bottles in for the game?

If you'd prefer to do more, each chalice glass - you know the ones - that they sell provides five years of clean drinking water for people without any.

So, there you go, that's why Bridges and Parker are on board. Sure, they're probably getting pretty well paid, but at least it's for a good cause.

For those of us out there still holding out for a Big Lebowski sequel, there doesn't seem to be much chance of that. The Coen brothers, who directed the original, have pretty much closed the door on that possibility years ago.

Still, we can dream...
