Well, well, well, after more than a decade it looks we're finally getting a follow up to Disney's brilliant animated comedy The Incredibles. The sequel to the 2004 movie has been teased for years as director Brad Bird was waiting for a plot that would match or be better than the original. Finally, our prayers have been answered and the first look at The Incredibles 2 has been released.

Bob/Mr Incredible, his wife, Helen/Elastigirl, and their three superhuman kids are back for more action and they are taking on the Underminer. For those that need a cheeky history lesson, that villain appeared right at the end of the first movie and appeared to be like a mole man, hell bent on destruction.

Writer and director Brad Bird told the Disney Animation Presentation at D23: "It's so great to be here to tell you about the film. It's fundamentally a story about family...with this new film, we're excited to jump back into that world. We have controls able to do so much more than before.

"The whole world of Incredibles 2 is gonna be greatly expanded upon. We'll be seeing a lot more of Elastagirl."

Thankfully, some of the best characters will also appear alongside the Parr family, including Lucius Best/Frozone (Samuel L Jackson) and Edna Mode (Brad Bird).

It'll be hard to top the 2004 original, which was praised by critics, won a bunch of awards, including two Oscars, and grossed more than $633 million (£479 million) at the Box Office.

Mr Bird has been tossing up with the idea of a sequel for years, first telling ComingSoon.net in 2007: "If I can come up with a Toy Story 2 with The Incredibles, then I would do it in a second. I have pieces that I think are good, but I don't have them all together."

He followed that up nearly seven years later by telling the Hollywood Reporter: "I have been thinking about it. People think that I have not been, but I have. Because I love those characters and love that world.

"I am stroking my chin and scratching my head. I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another Incredibles film, and if I can get 'em to click all together, I would probably wanna do that."

Obviously, he's managed to piece all his ideas together to release the movie that people have been waiting for for 15 years. But don't hold your breath, the film is expected to be released on June 15, 2018.
