You'd be forgiven if you think The Purge was based on real-life events in America right now. The way people go on about Trump, he's building that wall and making America great again by passing the '28th Amendment'.

The first Purge film, released in 2013, brought the dystopian future to cinemas where the previously mentioned 28th Amendment is passed making all crime legal for 12 hours.

After a good reception at the box office, spin-off films came in 2014 and 2016, both focusing on completely different aspects around The Purge. With the scope of a dystopian future available it's no wonder they're throwing themselves into a TV series.

James DeMonaco, The Purge creator, previously told Cinema Blend: "My idea is that you do six or seven storylines. And I would kind of intercut them, use flashbacks.

"It will be interesting to show those dramatic and complex arcs that get people to where they pick up a gun or a knife and kill someone else. I think there's something cool that we can do with the real estate of TV - 10 hours, potentially."

Blumhouse Productions are taking on production of The Purge TV series. The founder, Jason Blum told Deadline, "Over the past few years, we have been working to build Blumhouse Television into an independent studio so we can have the autonomy to work with the best storytellers and give them freedom to create the best dark genre programming.

"It is a dream that day is here. Julian and his team at ITV are remarkable partners and we can't wait to kick things off with "The Purge" and "Secure and Hold" (a limited series about Fox News' Roger Ailes).

"We are excited that with the launch of this new studio, we are expanding our partnership with NBCUniversal by growing The Purge franchise into a television series."

But if you're a fan of the films, don't worry. The Purge's next feature will be in 2018 and if it's a successful as the last, grossing $79 million (£63 million), the franchise will only be going from strength to strength.
