Rise of the Footsoldier is one of the enduring Brit film franchises of our times, the byword in the up and coming "two hours of geezers punching each other in the napper in a variety of new and interesting ways" genre.

In terms of British gangster flicks, the original hardly reinvented the wheel, but what it did do was strip the genre down to the bare bones: the fights, the drugs and the girls.

In short, if it was a film about hard lads battling in the streets, it was exactly what you needed to see.

The shocking true story of Carlton "I'll see what I can do" Leach, former football hooligan, bouncer and drug dealer was a huge underground smash in 2007 and spawned a follow up in 2015 that gave the fans even more of what they wanted.

Now, we're going back to where it all began.

If Carlton's story was the rise of the footsoldier, then Pat Tate was the main man when the young Mr Leach was right at the bottom.

The third film in the series, Rise of the Footsolider 3: The Pat Tate Story brings to light the life of one of the three men to die at the end of the first film. (There's no spoiler alert - the real-life murders happened in 1997 and the film came out in 2007, so if you haven't heard by now it's really not our fault.)

It's a rollercoaster that takes Pat from Marbella to Essex in the late 80s, fuelled by eccies and charlie, before landing him in the joint, whereupon he fights to become top dog.

If you like British gangster movies, then you'll be familiar with plenty of the faces in Rise of the Footsoldier 3.

Returning from the original are cast members Craig Fairbrass, who plays Pat Tate, Terry Stone, playing fellow crim Terry Tucker (who he also played in Bonded by Blood, another film about the Rettendon murders) and Larry Lamb, who was also in a third, different movie about the same crime, 2000's Essex Boys.

Roland Manookian, an alumnus of all the Rise of the Footsolider movies, plus Once Upon a Time in London, London Heist, Big Fat Gypsy Gangster, RocknRolla, Dead Cert and just about every other Brit gangland flick, plays Craig Rolfe, the third Rettendon victim.

Jamie Foreman, aka the Duke from Layer Cake, makes an appearance too, as does Billy Murray, best known as legendary baddie DCI Don Beech from The Bill, far from the only former resident of Sun Hill to appear in Rise of the Footsoldier 3.

The trailer dropped today and suffice to say, if its hard geezers, guns, epic fights and the like that you're into, then you're in for a treat come release in November.
