The trailer for the next movie in the Predator series has just dropped and it looks terrifying and amazing.

The latest instalment in the sci-fi horror series is the fourth standalone Predator film (we don't count the Alien vs. Predator series) and is called simply, The Predator.

The trailer is about as epic and jumpy as you'd probably expect and shows a strange contrast of aliens and explosions as well as children in Halloween costumes. It doesn't give too much away, but it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.

One thing we do know is that the Predators are upgrading somehow - as if they weren't tough enough.

The new film had been teased by 20th Century Fox with a short, but cryptic video before the trailer announcement that showed the display from the Predator's wrist gauntlet and the tag-line "Something is coming".

The stars of the film also got on board with the teaser, posting photos of themselves in character split with heat vision shots of themselves, suggesting that they have found themselves under the evil beady eyes of the film's alien villains.

The film actually wrapped shooting back in June last year but was delayed by reshoots and a major change to the third act of the film.

It is designed to be a sequel to the first ever Predator film from 1987. That film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and told the story of a load of commandos trapped in the Central American rainforest being hunted for sport by the dreadlocked assassins.

This film takes us from the jungle to the streets and sees the humans up against genetically upgraded Predators. What chance do they have?

Promo material for the film reads: "From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black's explosive reinvention of the Predator series.

"Now, the universe's most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species.

"When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race."

The film is directed and co-written by Iron Man's Shane Black and stars Thomas Jane, Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, Keegan Michael-Key, Jacob Tremblay, and Jake Busey amongst others.

Sadly, Arnie isn't coming back, so don't get your hopes up for that.

The film will be released later this year on September 14th.
