Unfortunately for fans, the writers of The Walking Dead just love fucking with us. We are jerked around every which way when they decided to kill off a major and potentially beloved character without any notice.

But after eight seasons of the legendary AMC show, we've learned to get a thick skin and dust ourselves off a bit quicker with each death. So you can imagine the sheer confusion and turmoil fans were left in when producer and director Greg Nicotero teased a bit of juicy information about the upcoming second episode.

According to Mr Nicotero, The Damned will feature a character who we all thought was well dead, telling Yahoo: "It's a direct continuation of the war and the attack on the satellite [outpost], which is exciting.

"And it's possible that there may be a character that we may have thought was dead pop up. Who knows?"

Naturally, fans have had to dig into their memories of the show to remember who they thought might have died. Plenty has been killed off in a huge variety of ways, some pretty gruesome as well, however there have been some moments where we just assumed they were cut from the series because they were left in a precarious situation or they just disappeared.

A big fan favourite to return is Morales (Juan Gabriel Pareja) and haven't been in the show since season one when he decided to take his family to Birmingham to find other relatives. A look on social media shows that many Walking Dead viewers are keen to see him grace their screens once again.

Producer Scott Gimple recently told Entertainment Weekly that we could see a return of Heath (Corey Hawkins) in season eight. He was last seen in Swear where he and Tara were fighting to stay alive, before he vanished from the area. Mr Gimple says: "We definitely have not seen the last of Heath, period.

"I will say that. I don't mean to disappoint the Heathies. He will be on the show. He will be within The Walking Dead again."

The Governor (David Morrissey) was another character whom we just assumed died after being wounded by Michonne's katana and then a gunshot was heard but not seen. He's previously teased the idea of a showdown between The Governor and Negan, which he reckons he would win.

There are a few others being rumoured, including, Sherry, Duane or Andrea, but we'll just have to wait and see when the episode gets released.
