I'm going to take a punt here and assume JK Rowling is a Liverpool fan.

She's fully aware that things in the past are great - phenomenal, even. This means that now those things from the past keep coming up, being bumped into the present to try and maintain some relevance.

You can argue whether or not the six Harry Potter books and subsequent films are better than five European cups and 18 league titles, and I reckon most people will reside with the latter.

The advantage Rowling has here is that HP's past is totally fictional, meaning new facts can constantly be added to the magical world, enlightening fans all around the world.

The latest update on Rowling's site Pottermore is about the young wizard's family and its history, but also how there is more than one Harry Potter... Sort of.

It's quite possible that, during his time at Hogwarts, the Harry that we know flew around on his broom during Quidditch matches while his peers chanted, 'THERE'S ONLLLLLYYYY ONNNNNNNE HARRY POTTER.' If they did, well they were wrong.

Early in the 20th century there was Henry Potter, who went by Harry, who was an outspoken character in the Ministry of Magic.

"Henry Potter (Harry to his intimates), who was a direct descendant of Hardwin and Iolanthe, and served on the Wizengamot from 1913-1921," Rowling writes on Pottermore. "Henry caused a minor stir when he publicly condemned [the] then-Minister for Magic, Archer Evermonde, who had forbidden the magical community to help Muggles waging the First World War.

"His outspokenness on the behalf of the Muggle community was also a strong contributing factor in the family's exclusion from the 'Sacred Twenty-Eight'."

Henry had a son named Fleamont, named after Henry/Harry's mother, who married a woman named Euphemia. Together they gave birth to a one James Potter.

His parents live to see him marry Lily Evans, though weren't around for the birth of their only child, Harry.

James inherited Ignotus Peverell's Invisibility Cloak after his parents' untimely deaths, which was then passed onto Harry after his own 'rents passed on.

With all the new characters popping up in new projects like Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, maybe the first Harry will also make an appearance...? Who knows.
