There's a Massive Error In 'The Simpsons' Episode The Writers Didn't Notice

In the 1995 episode 'And Maggie Makes Three' no one noticed the family already had pictures of Maggie, before she was born

Who doesn't love The Simpsons? It's brilliant, a true comedy classic - you may be too young to remember Homer joining the Stonecutters but I bet you sing along to 'we do' when it graces your TV screen. But have you ever spotted any of the mistakes that have found their way into the show?

Yes, as enduring as the show has proven to be, it's still dropped a few clangers from time to time - and one eagled-eyed viewer spotted a corker of a mistake in the season six episode And Maggie Makes Three, which aired back in 1995. (You'll spot it at about 1:03 in the clip above).

Quick recap: this episode centres around Homer and Marge telling the story of Maggie being born, explaining why there are no baby pictures of the youngest Simpson in the family photo albums.

In one classic scene, where Marge is telling Homer she's in labour and her contractions have started, a photo of Maggie can be seen hanging on the wall behind the pair.

Strange, considering the little Simpson is literally in the process of being born at that moment.

Funnily enough it was actually Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman who pointed out the mistake, tweeting a screengrab of the moment and a comment saying: "Maggie is in photo on wall behind Marge telling Homer she's pregnant with Maggie."

Jumping to the much-loved show's defence, one person argued the picture could be Lisa, suggesting Maggie might wear her sister's hand-me-downs.

But the actual staff of the animated series decided to take the opportunity to have a joke about the error - publicly.

Writer Al Jean replied: "Canon is in ruins!"

He then replied to someone's Simpsons GIF that said: "Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder," with the comment: "I hope you're happy because we just fired SEVENTEEN people for that blunder. Fired. Through. Done."

Adding to the mix, Yeardley Smith, who voices the brainy eight-year-old Lisa Simpson, tweeted: "Oooops."

Nothing is perfect - clearly not even The Simpsons - and it turns out this isn't the only photo blunder the show has made. Not even in that one episode.

In the scene where Homer runs away screaming when Marge tells him she's pregnant with Bart, television's favourite dad runs up the stairs past a picture of his younger sister Lisa - who definitely wasn't on the way at that point.

Adding to the awkwardness, the picture can be seen again when he reacts the same way to the news Marge is pregnant with Lisa - d'oh. Maybe reusing background scenery isn't always the best solution for keeping animation costs down, eh?

Still, the show is too funny to get too mad about - and besides, since it first aired in 1989 the comedy has made some cracking predictions that have been borne out in real life.

Remember that time they predicted Donald Trump becoming president? Then, lo and behold, he did. Then they also said Disney was going to take over Fox - and it did. Spooky, right? Hope they write an episode about me winning the lottery next.
