Ah, Blockbuster - you were more than just a video renting store. You were a way of life.

Anyone of a certain age will confirm their most cherished memories were had in Blockbuster on a Saturday night. Choosing the snacks, seeing if your video was in store, deciding whether to splash out on a new release or go for the cult classics - it was a huge part of being a teen in the 90s.

However, thanks to the rise of the internet and streamers such as Netflix, the new generation of film watchers sees no use for Blockbuster anymore and eventually the business went into administration and filed for bankruptcy back in 2010.

As we cling to our memories of the film renting ritual, the franchised stores have been slowly and sadly shutting down, with the last UK shop closing down more than five years ago.

Today (31 March) marks a particularly sad day in the company's iconic history, as the second from last remaining store - located in Morley, Western Australia - closes its doors.

Speaking about the closure, co-owner Lyn Borszeki said: "We put in a pretty good effort to be the last one in Australia, I suppose, but it was going to happen eventually and now is the time."

This means there's only one Blockbuster open in the whole world and you can find it in Bend, Oregon. Here's hoping everyone will be kind and rewind, because they're the only ones carrying the torch right now.

Thankfully, people from across the world regularly drop in to the Bend store to show their support. Although with the way things are going, perhaps it's only a matter of time before the final Blockbuster stops and ejects for good.

Until then, if you're in the area and want your slice of video rental history, head on down to the final Blockbuster to rent out a game or DVD and pick out some side snacks. It's the only way to toast this 90s icon.

Just make sure you don't forget to return your film on time - we all remember how killer those overdue fees are, am I right?
