Tom Hardy Is The Bookies' Favourite To Be The Next James Bond

Tom Hardy Is The Bookies' Favourite To Be The Next James Bond

Daniel Craig can’t do it forever, and rather than give the job to a woman the bookies think Tom Hardy is most likely to be the next 007.

James Bond is the movie industry's great English hero. Sure, he's been played on a good few occasions by a Scottish bloke and an Irish guy, but he is still England's greatest spy.

As is usually the case between films, there has been a lot of speculation about who's going to play 007 in the next film.

Well, the next one (known only as Bond 25 at the minute) is likely to be Daniel Craig again. When asked about his role he said: "As far as I'm concerned, I've got the best job in the world. I'll keep doing it as long as I still get a kick out of it.

"If I were to stop doing it, I would miss it terribly."

But once this one is over it will surely be time to get in a new Bond, and sure enough, most of the major bookies are taking bets on who will be the next person into the famous weaponised tuxedo.

Most of them now have Tom Hardy back in pole position. The star of Taboo, Peaky Blinders, and a whole load of other projects would undoubtedly be a popular choice with fans, but as we know - they don't always go with the obvious choice.

James Norton - currently starring in McMafia - is another one of the frontrunners. He has the posh, suave charm to make the role his own and is a bit younger than Hardy so could have a long run in the films if he's any good.

Norton had been the favourite until he was recently taken over by Hardy in the eyes of most bookmakers.

Who knows, though? The next Bond could come out of left field.

Idris Elba has been suggested pretty strongly as a candidate and would be a great choice with regards to diversity. Surely society is ready for a black Bond?

Elba himself has ideas of his own, though. He thinks that the next Bond doesn't have to be a man. He thinks a woman could be Bond.

In an interview with Variety, Idris said: "Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male? It could be a woman, could be a black woman, could be a white woman. Do something different with it. Why not?"

Of course, why not? There is no reason that a woman couldn't be Bond. It might bring in a new audience and prove to be a masterstroke.

Or they could just give it to Harry Styles and bring in the female audience anyway. They'll probably do that.
