There are many spin-offs which fail to live up to the hype. Alien vs Predator. Catwoman. Joey. However, the upcoming 2018 movie Venom promises to kill that trend.

Tom Hardy got us all excited last month when he posted a picture on Twitter of his first day shooting his new movie. Well, now he's at it again.

Hardy posted a picture of himself relaxing on a couch accompanied with the simple Tweet, 'Home. #Venom'.

However, this is not believed to be the real home of the Legend star, but that of his new character, Eddie Brock's appartment.

Hardy has apparently undergone a brutal training regime to play Brock, a freelance photographer who is taken over by the sentient alien lifeform in Marvel's original Spider-Man comics.

The character was previously played by Topher Grace in 2007's Spider-Man 3, which was Tobey Maguire's last outing as Spider-Man in the original trilogy of Spider-Man films. We're pretty confident Tom will be better.

Rumours suggest that the storyline will see Brock relocate to San Francisco after coming to a truce with Spider-Man. He is expected to be going up against the supervillain Carnage, a blood thirsty alien and a darker version of Venom.

The shape-shifting lifeform is so popular that it was listed as #33 on Empire Magazine's 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters.

The film will be directed by Ruben Fleischer, the director who previously directed the cult smash Zombieland.

The script is being written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who contributed to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Other actors confirmed to star in the Spider-Man spin-off are Riz Ahmed, star of last year's Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, and Michelle Williams, who starred in Brokeback Mountain as Alma, the wife of Heath Ledger's character, Del Mar.

However, we will not be seeing Spider-Man in the new movie after Marvel president Kevin Feige ruled the rumour out before it built up any momentum.

In an interview with Variety, Feige said, "No. No, I think the folks there are making a great Venom movie and I don't know much about it but they're off to a good start with Tom Hardy."

However, let's not rule anything out totally. If this movie reaches the New York skyscraper heights that it promises to reach, we could see both Tom's, Hardy and Holland come together to make what could potentially be the best Spider-Man in the franchise.
