2018 is truly a year of nostalgia - Pokémon is due to return to the big screen, platform trainers are back... and now Tracy Beaker is poised to make her CBBC return for the first time in six years in a special one-off spin-off show called The Dumping Ground.

Dani Harmer is resurrecting her iconic character - based on the books by Jacqueline Wilson - but instead of being an occupant of a children's home, as in the original series, Tracy is now all grown up and ready for more action.

In the special, Tracy has returned for her former carer Mike's wedding - however, in true 'Tracy Beaker' fashion, events go unexpectedly wrong when the groom goes missing and so the whole former Dumping Ground team must work together to save the day.

Dani started out in the role in 2002, when she was just 12 years old - now at the age of 29, her life is completely different from the moody teen fans of the show came to know and love.

Jacqueline Wilson recently announced that in her new book Tracy would be a grown woman, living the life of a single parent on a council estate with her daughter.

For many fans it may be hard to imagine the character we grew up with would be adulting by now - well, it looks like this is something they'll have to get used to. Speaking with the Sun, Dani talks about the changes her life has gone through in the last six years.

In a wide-ranging interview, Dani discusses leaving Tracy behind in 2012, at the end of Tracy Beaker Returns, and even chats about the birth of her own daughter in 2016.

She says: "You don't realise when you have your first child how difficult trying to find child care is, it's crazy, especially with a job like mine. It definitely takes an army.

"We all pitch in and it's sometimes a bit like pass the baby but luckily she loves her family and it actually helps her development."

To many people all over the UK, Dani has been the living, breathing version of Tracy Breaker and even Dani finds it hard to get away from the role sometimes.

"I do have the odd occasion where people actually think I am Tracy Beaker in real life and the whole thing is real," she tells the newspaper.

"I just put it down to the fact that we really did a great job on that programme."

Along with Dani the new spin-off special - which is set to hit screens on Friday 7 December - will star former Eastenders actress Michelle Collins.

Looks like it's time to grab your cropped cargo trousers and head for the Dumping Ground because Tracy Beaker is back - at least for one day.
