Daniel Wakeford melted hearts and had audiences in tears last year when he starred on the Channel 4 show The Undateables.

The show follows the lives of people who struggle to find love the conventional way.

Musicial Daniel has autism and has difficulties with his speech and understanding other people, but as a teenager the 30-year-old found that he was able to overcome these through the power of songwriting.

In the now famous episode of The Undateables, he went on a date with Lily, and wooed her with a rendition of his song 'The Black of Lonely'.

One year on from their incredible first date, the Undateables star has announced he and Lily are getting hitched.

According to the Mirror Online, in the episode to be aired next week the talent musician - with the help of a choir - serenades his partner with All I Want For Christmas Is You, before getting down on one knee and popping the question.

A year on since the pair met, Daniel popped the question to his girlfriend, Lily.

Afterwards Daniel shouts: "I did it!. We love each other. I'm feeling very excited. What's the best feeling in the world? Love."

Lily then says: "I'm so very happy Daniel proposed. We're getting married! I love him very much."

Their families watched the romantic scenes at Brighton Bandstand, Lily's favourite spot in their home town.

Lily's mum Karen, 53, said: "We absolutely sobbed our socks off with joy.

"She has won the love lottery. Daniel is perfect for her. They really understand each other."

Daniel's dad Barry, 69, a retired hairstylist, said: "When he found Lily, all his Christmases came at once."

The proposal will be aired on TV next week.

It has been a whirlwind of a year for Daniel, who as well as meeting the love of his life has embarked on a successful music career.

Crowds flocked to his hometown of Brighton to catch a glimpse of the rock star as he launched the CD, titled 'That's How I See It', which he has been touring around the country.

Over the past year, the 6ft 4inch star has been working hard in the recording studio but he says it was all worth it and is now loving life in the spotlight.

Daniel said: "It was so wonderful to my life. I was a little bit nervous, I used my powerful voice and my soft voice.

"Everything is really great when I'm being a famous star. I love meeting my fans."
