It looks pretty gruesome.

The combination of violence, gore and massacring has a great track record of keeping people entertained during TV shows.

However, after recent revelations apparently it's not always desired, and there's such a thing as too much.

The Sinner, a new series starring Jessica Biel, is so gruesome that people are allegedly struggling to get through the first episode.

It officially premiered on the USA Network on August 2, and follows the story of a young mother trying to find out what's causing her to have violent tendencies, after she murders someone in public and has no idea why.

Despite some people claiming that the first episode was a bit too much, the series has got off to a flying start, reportedly receiving a 7.7/10 rating on IMDB and 92 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

There's seven more episodes to go, which surely means more blood and violence.

However, with such good reviews from the first ep, it's certainly worth giving a watch.

The show is based on Petra Hammesfahr's best-selling German novel of the same name.
