​Watch The First Trailer For New Horror Movie 'Slender Man'

The first trailer for the new Slender Man film has just dropped via IGN ahead of its release this spring. Take a look:

So far, the initial reaction of the trailer from Twitter seems fairly mixed. Some are saying they're really excited for the film's release after the first taster, while others reckon the trailer makes it look like a 'funny bad' film.

The forthcoming horror film is based on the myth created by Eric Knudsen and will star Javier Botet - who has Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder with characteristics include being tall and long, slender limbs, fingers and toes - as the titular monster. He'll feature alongside actors Jaz Sinclair, Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Annalise Basso and Kevin Chapman.

The first poster for the film was released yesterday, with the promise of a following trailer debut today. The film will then be released in cinemas this May.

The Slender Man has become something of an urban legend after being created by Knudsen (aka 'Victor Surge') as an embodiment of horror in the era of internet memes. He is a non-descript, pale man with abnormally long limbs, who stalks, traumatises and abducts people - primarily young children. How lovely.

A few years ago, two twelve-year-olds in America tried to murder a classmate, apparently to appease the online fictional character. Despite being severely wounded and left for dead, the victim managed to crawl onto a road, where she was discovered by a cyclist.

The attackers, Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, were charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide following the May 2014 attack. Geyser was diagnosed with early onset schizophrenia during a court-ordered competency evaluation in 2014, and later was found found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, meaning she was ultimately not be held responsible for the attack.

In December 2017, Weier was then sentenced to be committed to a psychiatric hospital for 25 years, with lawyers for the teenager claiming she was not responsible for her actions as she was mentally ill.
