Whatever Happened to the Original Pink Power Ranger?

Whatever Happened to the Original Pink Power Ranger?

Where are you now, Kimberly?

As a kid, Saturday morning TV was the highlight of the week, and best of all was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

The show made kids across the world hyperactively jump off items of furniture in the attempt to recreate the dare-devil action scenes on screen. It then subsequently got banned in a bunch of schools, including mine.

And, of course, I had a crush on Pink Ranger Kim Ann Hart.

The Pink Ranger was played by Amy Jo Johnson in her first acting role.

A talented gymnast, Johnson would energetically vault around high-kicking encounters with the evil forces of Rita Replusa - kicking-ass and stealing hearts in her pink jumpsuit.

She left the role in 1995 but briefly returned for 1997 movie Power Rangers: Turbo

A brand-new Power Rangers movie is currently in cinemas, but what are Johnson and the rest of the original cast up to now.

In a recent column in Variety Magazine, Johnson thanked the show's creator, Haim Saban, for allowing her to be the original Pink Power Ranger.

"It's taken me years to fully embrace what that means and discover the impact she had," she wrote.

Congratulating Saban on the new film, she added: "P.S. Feel free to cast me in any of the upcoming sequels. I believe I would make a wonderful villain." Yes, let's make this happen, Mr Saban.

Since leaving Power Rangers, Johnson has made multiple appearances in TV and film, including in The Pursuit of Happiness and Infested, and has had guest starring roles in Spin City and ER.

More recently, from 2008-2012, she played Constable Jules Callaghan in Canadian police drama Flashpoint, for which she was nominated for a Gemini Award (Canada's Baftas).

And her first self-produced feature film, The Space Between Us, was released earlier this year.

Johnson is also a singer-songwriter and has three albums to date, with her songs featuring in several of her movies including Bent, Lines and The Space Between Us.

According to rumours, after a dare from her former cast-mate, David Yost, she has even been spotted busking in her Pink Ranger suit.

Blue Ranger, David Yost, appeared in more than 200 Power Rangers episodes, and starred in and produced several movies, made-for-TV films, and series.

Off screen, Yost has struggled after suffering a nervous breakdown and undergoing sexual-orientation conversion therapy - but after coming to terms with himself he has become a campaigner for NOH8.

Red Ranger, Austin St John, original leader of the Rangers, quit in the middle of the second series over pay, before returning as the Gold Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo, while also having a cameo in Turbo, and attending Power Morphicon 2014.

He now works for Washington D.C. emergency services, which is perfect. Imagine being in some sort of trouble and the Red fucking Ranger turns up to save the day.

Green Ranger, Jason David Frank, who continued his role across numerous Power Rangers inceptions, is an adept mixed martial artist, a seventh Dan black belt in Karate and Purple belt in Brazilian Jujitsu, with a 5-0-win record across professional and amateur MMA.

Original Black Ranger, Zack Taylor, was replaced after a season-and-a-half and has since focussed on voicework - including in Cloudy with a Chane of Meatballs 2 and videogame Red Dead Redemption.

Yellow Ranger, Thuy Trang, quit after one-and-a-half seasons, going on to star in films, The Crow: City of Angels and Spy Hard, before dying in a 2001 car accident.

Her funeral was attended by Power Rangers co-stars Amy Jo Johnson, Austin St John, David Yost and Walter Emmanuel Jones.
