You'd think that serving raw chicken would be rule #1 of what not to do as a chef. Heck, little kids making sandwiches for lunch know not to do that.

Clearly marketing manager-turned-MasterChef hopeful Ottilie didn't get the memo, as she wound up very nearly giving judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace food poisoning from some dangerously pink chicken.

Served with sweet potato, white bean, rice and chorizo stew and smoked garlic butter, the amateur chef's opening attempt sure did sound good enough to eat. And while it wasn't the prettiest dish, the cook did remark: "It doesn't have to look pretty as long as it tastes nice."

Clearly preempting the mistake, John remarked: "That stew probably needs a lot longer than ten minutes, however the ingredients are right.

"There's chorizo, tomatoes chicken... that works really well together. It could be really delicious."

However, Ottilie - who hopes to one day open up her own deli in the Yorkshire Dales - saw her dreams come crashing down when Gregg pointed out the uncooked flesh on the chicken thighs to viewers at home.

He said: "The sweet potato in the stew is a new one for me, but I like it because it's broken down and given more sweetness to a sweet stew.

"But as you can clearly see, not only is the chicken skin not cooked but the chicken itself is not cooked."

Fellow judge John went in for the kill too, stating: "I can't eat that."

So while she was hoping to secure a place in the MasterChef quarter finals, sadly the serious blunder meant Ottilie was booted off after the first round on Wednesday night's episode of the show.

Later on in the episode, she said: "After that chicken, I think I'm a goner."

"I'm cross that it was such a rookie error but I'm pleased it wasn't a total and utter disaster and they liked some bits."

It's no surprise the internet had a LOT to say about the ordeal, with one person replying to her reflection with: "It wasn't a complete disaster"....???? Ya f**kin' chicken was raw." Straight to the point.

The dish was later dubbed 'chicken a la salmonella', with another commenter writing: "How disgusting uncooked chicken. That is revolting and dangerous. How can these people possibly be considered professional?"

Well, at least she gave it her best shot. Although, can't lie, it does bear a striking resemblance to that chicken dinner on Rate My Plate.
