It's Official: GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 Tie-In Mission Announced

The fact that Rockstar's two flagship franchises are both set in the same part of the world, albeit separated by a hundred years or so, has long had fans speculating about the connections between the two games.

Since Grand Theft Auto V first got gamers glued to their screens four years ago, people have been searching for solid proof that the GTA world and the Red Dead Redemption world are interlinked. But despite a connection being heavily implied, nothing has ever been outright proven. Until now.

A skilled team of data miners recently discovered a note hidden deep in GTA V, leading players on a scavenger hunt across Los Santos in order to uncover a golden six-shooter that can be used in the yet-to-be-released Red Dead Redemption 2.

The Guru Team, the same group responsible for solving the famous GTA UFO mystery, discovered the information deep within coding in GTA V's Doomsday Heist update files. More specifically, they found descriptions of a revolver that will be unlocked in RDR 2 if players complete a corresponding mission in GTA V.

This discovery prompted Rockstar to release an official announcement relating to the revolver mission.

The game developer said: "Rumors of a lost relic from the frontier have begun to surface, and treasure awaits those bold enough to seek it. Keep an eye on your iFruit for a special in-game email containing the first clue, then follow the trail to unlock the Double-Action Revolver in GTA Online.

"Once you acquire your gratis Double-Action Revolver, complete the Headshot Challenge in Freemode (50 headshot kills) for a GTA$250,000 reward and unlock it for future gun-slinging exploits in Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One."

When players follow the directions laid out in the mission they will have to visit 20 different locations and take photos. Eventually they will find themselves at an unmarked grave, high in the Los Santos hills.

Hidden within the grave, players will be able to find the revolver, which we now know has been planted there by someone from the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2.

Perhaps the coolest thing about the find is that it seems to enforce what some Rockstar fans have been speculating on for a long time now.

Years ago, GTA players found an unmarked grave on the eastern coast of the map. Given the events of RDR, some players believed the grave could have been that of John Marston.

Now it looks like that is the same unmarked grave that the now officially RDR-linked mission is leading players to. Perhaps they were right the whole time.
